Can the Seto Inland Sea be ugly? Really?

If you’ve followed this blog long enough, you know my love for the Seto Inland Sea. Sometimes, I say – barely exaggerating – that I have no interest in living in Japan, I only care about living near Setouchi (how the sea is usually called here, hence the name of the art festival.)

If you follow me on social media, you know that I regularly post views of the sea like the following one:

Seto Inland Sea September 30

This one is a Setouchi Explorer exclusive, I haven’t posted it anywhere else (I took it yesterday evening on my way to Ogijima, I hope I get to write about this soon)

You may or may not know that I have another blog called Liminal Web (you should follow it too), and in it, I write a series of posts called “Ugly Japan.” (How dare I? I know.)

And I just posted something about the Seto Inland Sea in it!!!! What’s wrong with me?

Well, I invite you to read it then.

  1. Hi there,

I totally agree that Seto Inland Sea is the most beautiful part of Japan and would like to keep big industry out. I am originally from Suo-Oshima and planning to move back there from California. I’m looking forward to connecting to musicians (I’m also a musician) and artists.
