The following are a few pictures I took almost a year ago, in April 2022, as I visited Naoshima just before the start of the Setouchi Triennale 2022.
I posted all the Triennale-related content back then. Today, I’m sharing with you the other pictures I took on that day in no particular order.
It’s probably the first time I take a picture of this artwork. It’s by George Rickey and it’s called Four Lines.
A lizard, enjoying the return of warm weather.
The Yellow Pumpkin was not back yet. (It returned last October). It’s going to sound weird, but I kinda miss this empty pier that was nothing special and so special at the same time.
The most famous torii on Naoshima, and a godsend for the cheaters with the “stone on the torii” thing.
Oh, yes, that’s true, I visited Ando Museum that day.
The cherry blossoms were in full bloom.
Yes, this is Minamidera‘s cherry tree.
That was the day I had the whole place for myself. That was nice… I warmly advise… If you can… 😉
Honmura streets
Naoshima’s Slowpoke Manhole cover.
If you haven’t stumbled upon them on this blog or in real life yet, know that a few years ago, many cities in Japan reached some deals with the Pokémon Company to have Pokémon adorning various manhole covers. Roughly at the same time, Slowpoke (Yadon in Japanese) kinda became Kagawa Prefecture’s official Pokémon (and unofficial mascot) and each municipality in the prefecture got its own unique Slowpoke manhole cover. This is Naoshima’s. I’ll let you find its location (it’s very easy).
Honmura’s Hachiman Shrine
During my first visit to Naoshima, back in 2010, I had ice cream there. The place is still standing and still serving ice cream. My kids were happy about that the other day.

I’m not going to lie, it’s not my favorite work from them. What bothers me is that it really looks unfinished. Not sure why they made that choice (or is it really unfinished?)
