This is Tarako (たらこ) :

Tarako are salted fish eggs that are served still in their “egg bag” (not sure of the real name). They can be eaten raw, just like that (I tried them this way, I didn’t hate them, but it was far from the best thing I have eaten in Japan) or mixed with rice (much better) or even used as sauce for spaghetti (I haven’t tried them this way, I’ve heard that this is how they taste the best).
I had them during my second trip to Japan, about a year ago. I really wanted to try Tarako then. Why? Because a few weeks earlier I saw this:

Something’s telling me that now, you too will have trouble forgetting what you just saw, and you too you will want to have Tarako next time your in Japan (yes, you just experienced first-hand the power of Japanese commercials)!

Those kewpie lookalikes wearing those tarako sacs is kinda creepy for me though. XD
Yes, it’s Tarako sauce. And they’re not kewpie lookalikes, they’re actual “Tarako kewpie.”
The first time I saw them I found them creepy, now I’m obsessed with them. 🙂
So that’s kewpie too! Sure many of them running around. XD
I’d better not watch the video again, lest I get obsessed with it. LOL
Kewpie is everywhere in Japan! 🙂
