Konsen-ji, Shikoku Pilgrimage’s Third Temple

Today, we’re going to Tokushima Prefecture, more precisely in the city of Itano (city by name only, a town really) to visit Konsen-ji, Shikoku Pilgrimage’s third temple.

It’s located just three kilometers from Gokuraku-ji, its predecessor, and to go from one to the other is a piece of cake, the land is flat, the environment is vaguely urban (a bunch of houses and buildings here and there but also quite a number of fields, a semi-urban, semi-rural environment that you will encounter a lot when you leave the big cities.

Just like its predecessor, it is said to have been founded by the monk Gyoki and that’s pretty much all I know about it.

Let’s see what it looks like:

Just like the first two temples, Konsen-ji is laid out around some sort of garden surrounded by a certain number of buildings around it. It’s a very pleasant place to visit, even if you’re not a pilgrim (full disclosure, I didn’t visit it as a pilgrim). Trying to find all the little things it has to offer almost makes it a playful area actually.

Also, it has a few permanent residents:

Good luck to them. 85 temples to go.

Next stop, Dainichi-ji.
