Looking at the second photo, I can’t help but think that moving or putting bulky appliances into those homes would be murder. Oh the winding, steep street!
If I remember correctly, there are also streets wide enough to have (tiny) vehicles go through them and connecting most if not all house.
For the rest, they have Onba 🙂
Come on, unless you’re one of these people who take their car to go pick up their mail at the end of the alley (I met some on the other side of the ocean), that’s nothing. 🙂

Houses there look bit different from what I can see in my area. I like the roof covered with ceramic tiles:)

I thought ceramic tiles like this were all over Japan (but actually, you’re right, I’ve seen just a small part of Japan: Shikoku, the Western part of Honshu and Tokyo, so what do I know?)
wow. looks great. sort of reminds me of the steep medieval streets of saint émilion. just a hint, as saint émilion streets are paved with cobblestones. 🙂
You’ve been to St-Émilion? Awesome. I live about an hour from there, and it’s definitely one of my favorite villages in France, and not only because of the (best) wine (in the world).
Although, Karato streets are not as steep, the picture makes it look that way (Ogijima streets on the other hand, some of them are so steep that they are stairs)
