I know it’s ok to see this flag on a boat from the Navy. Yet, it always makes me feel uneasy because of all of its other connotations…

I somehow agree with your sentiment about the flag, more so that my country was occupied by the Japanese and many people suffered hardship throughout that period.
Yes your country actually suffered under that flag, mine didn’t (it was another one).
I wonder why it was not changed by the US occupation after the war.
Always impressive to see a big battleship like that. I think that flag will always bring back memories of WW2 as it is so familiar.
