Another Rebirth by Kimiyo Mishima

Another Rebirth by Kimiyo Mishima is one of the most peculiar artworks on Naoshima in my opinion.

It’s a giant wastebasket on the side of the road. And that’s all.

Another Rebirth 1

The basket itself is made of metal but the giant trash is made of ceramics.

I especially love how one of the objects is an old USA Today with something about the XFL on its front page. I’m not sure if many people remember the XFL (I doubt many people outside of the US even know what I’m talking about), but it’s fitting that while mostly forgotten, it found some sort of posterity in the most fitting way: garbage.

You can see the newspaper on the picture below:

Also, and unfortunately, trash may be an appropriate topic for the other thing I need to tell you about.

You may already know that I started a newsletter about the Setouchi Triennale, the islands, and more.

If you haven’t subscribed yet, I warmly invite you to do so.

However, it was brought to my attention that some people who had subscribed (and/or who I automatically subscribed because they already subscribed to this blog) had trouble receiving it, because it was falling into their spam folder ! 😱

So, if you haven’t received the first issue yet (you should have two days ago), it may mean that you’re one of the owners of an overzealous spam filter!

If this is the case, please tell your spam filter that my newsletter is good, nice, and healthy for you.

It’d be a shame that it ends up in your e-mail wastebasket.
