Today, I bring you to the village of Sakate, in the southeast of Shodoshima to revisit one of the veteran artworks of the Setouchi Triennale. I’m talking about Anger from the Bottom by Kenji Yanobe and Beat Takeshi (aka Takeshi Kitano, yes, himself).
It has changed a little bit since the last time told you about it.
Unfortunately, the “god of anger” doesn’t hide in its well anymore. It is now permanently “floating” above it. Also, a shrine has been built around the statue to protect it from the elements a little bit. Note that this “Beat Shrine” has been built and designed by Dot Architects who have designed quite a few buildings in the area for the Setouchi Triennale.

It’s already looking at you menacingly when you arrive from the port after climbing a small but somewhat steep slope.

In other words, it is not to be messed with, but I hope you’ll go pay it a visit next time you go to Shodoshima.
